Powerline is a way to connect two or more computers in a building together and ergo represents a good alternative to Wi-Fi. The data transfer is possible with a conventional power supply. It come not only a 230-volt electricity from the wall socket, but also phone and Internet. Powerline came in July 2001 on the market. First, they gave no chances, compared to DSL, cable TV and Wi-Fi Powerline. Was a huge success, skeptics kept so right. Nevertheless, there’s Powerline.
A standard does not exist so far yet, there are several initiatives. The most advanced is HomePlug, which promises a data transfer rate of 14MBit. This is however gross, 5.2 MB / s are achieved only maximum under conditions, which are ideal. This means that the mains without errors. Approximately 30 meters can be achieved and are typical.
To distinguish two disciplines at Powerline are: access, that the energy suppliers, and In-house network. High-frequency data channels are modeled on low frequency power lines. The side effect here: The power lines act as antennas, which can significantly disturb police, military and amateur radio. Thus, particularly the amateur radio operators of Powerline are not well-disposed. In the spring of 2001, it has been fixed, that other radio services must not be disturbed. Four of the gross0ten energy suppliers of in Germany went first with Powerline at the start: E.ON gave up E.ON, RWE, EnBW and MVV. first, followed by RWE and EnBW. Only MVV was unchallenged in 1st, up there in early 2004 at the Powerline business power PLUS Communications AG (PPC), however a subsidiary, was passed. Powerline adapters are available in any electronics store these days, even entire schools and large buildings are connected today. Powerline compared to Wi-Fi or wired networks, Poweline offers several advantages: Wi-Fi must you configure, for cable networks usually endlessly pull cable through the whole building, Powerline, however, offers network from the wall socket and playing simple handling.
